This project in Balham which received planning permission earlier this year is due to start on site soon. Working alongside the client we looked to create an extension that is dramatic and striking inside and out but is at the same suitable as a family space.
It features an asymmetric exposed timber roof structure with alternating glazing and standing-seam zinc panels above.
There are a wide set of b-fold doors to the rear elevation, with yellow – stock brickwork surrounding then.
The challenging of the design was to create additional floor-space for the client with minimal impact on the neighbours and to the requirements that would achieve planning permission.
Attic Refurbishment Project in Clapham
This attic refurbishment project in Clapham involved some redesign of the existing layout.
A wall between the existing office and storage room layout was knocked down, the door layout was amended and pocket doors added to maximize usable space.
The office space was therefore transformed: from cramped and disorganized to open, light, colourful and balanced.
A window seat was created where an existing low level Velux was positioned. This made good use of what could otherwise have been seen as an awkward feature.
A made to measure, hand crafted desk and storage units were installed, utilizing Birch Ply along with brightly coloured Formica fronts.

Kings Cross – Flat Refurbishment
This project is currently under construction and these are the original concept sketches.
The existing compact flat featured a separate kitchen as well as the bathroom being accessed trough the kitchen. The key requirements of the brief were to open the space up and improve the layout.
The new design will feature an open plan kitchen and living room and the bathroom will be directly accessed from the living room.
A key feature of the design is a bespoke timber veneer storage wall, that links the kitchen, living room and bathroom spaces.
