Alexandra Palace - Custom Kitchen

When I briefed my clients it was clear that they loved using their kitchen and dining room. Every square inch of the kitchen was being used to store jars of baking products, kitchen equipment and vegetables. Part of the challenge was therefore to bring some order and functionality to the space. They were keen however not to have an impersonal sleek minimalist kitchen.

The solution was to create one full-height storage wall to keep the bulk of the food and the integrated fridge/freezer and oven. The storage wall mixes up parts that are hidden away behind doors with parts that are open with shelving and sections of worktop (made up by the owner from strips of reclaimed Teak).

The other side balances the full height wall by having as little presence as possible. There are no wall cabinets and the worktop and tile colour is very light and neutral in contrast with the bright Formica used on the units. The plinth supporting the units on this side is set far back to give the impression that they are floating.
